I would like to share a little bonus video with you this weekend.
Here in Yorkshire, UK, it has been the driest start to the year since the 1950’s. This means that mammals, birds and reptiles may be struggling to find and maintain adequate hydration.
Thanks to a thoughtful reminder from
here on Substack, I was reminded to put out water for the wildlife. I’ll confess this isn’t something that I always consider. I have a couple of small wildlife ponds in my orchard, but I know that many of the larger creatures don’t tend to venture there. So, I decided to put out a dog bowl filled with water in my most wildlife friendly spot, just in front of the wildlife camera.
Well, the wildlife certainly appreciated it. I was overwhelmed by how many of my regulars stopped by to take a drink, some of them unexpected.
I couldn’t resist putting out an extra post, hoping you will all share in my delight watching all these thirsty creatures drink their fill. It’s a good feeling knowing that I’ve done a little something to help them in challenging times.
I highly recommend the sound up for full effect, and do watch to the end to see one of my favourites!
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Thank you for the delightful peek of your backyard nature. I am grateful for people like you who will look out for the birds and animals with small kindnesses of food and water. The compassion that we show to those we serve in the nature Kingdom is a true blessing. 🙏🥳♥️
Amazing footage Melissa, thank you for taking the time to share it. That fox, it laps just like a dog! We finally had rain last night, we all (humans, plants and animals alike) breathed a huge sigh of relief!
