Imagine baby foxes that would be amazing I'm trying to remember what the baby foxes were called in the Animals of Farthing wood Dreamer I seem to remember..
Learnt so much about foxes and I love the idea of the nannie fox. Smart creatures, I just wish I could see one on one of my walks. This was a throughly researched piece and thank you for writing it.
That's an interesting question... I have no idea. Our garden backs onto agricultural land for miles, but we do have neighbours with big old barns, and a derelict house with outbuildings too 🤔
How exciting! We encountered a fox screaming/howling one night recently. It was startling to say the least, a definite surprise outside our terraced house in town (second only to the experience of badgers screaming outside our tent when camping last year). It's so wonderful seeing foxes with their young, I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Hi Ruth, I'm sorry I missed this comment earlier. I looked into it, and apparently it's to allow some species to climb trees! How interesting. Our foxes don't, but I believe that grey foxes in the US do.
thank you! more to come as soon as i have the time to go out!
Great - looking forward to it!
Photographers love them, I can tell you that!
I can see why - they are stunning creatures! I’ve recently captured some more footage of them, and it’s mesmerising.
Right? the fox photo basically started this substack for me lol
Amazing! I've subscribed to you. Always happy to support a fellow fox fan 🦊 Your photos are great.

The Animals of Farthing Wood. Thank you for reminding me, loved it. Loved this story and love foxes. Thanks, Melissa.
Thankyou Bee, and thanks so much for the share! I’m very happy to have reached a fellow Farthing Wood fan 💚🦊🦔🌳
What a beautiful story! I love foxes. I'm hoping that we'll soon a see a ban to the stupid tradition of hunting them.
Thanks so much 😊And I completely agree with you, I hope so too.
I very much enjoyed this, Melissa. Looking forward to hearing all about the cubs later!
I have a good feeling about the baby foxes! 🦊 Maybe more than one, who knows🤞 Lovely to learn more about them!

Two foxes 💖 And maybe baby foxes 💝 How exciting!
Wonderful read Melissa! I too think they are magical and lucky! And beautiful! 🦊
Thanks Linda, I’m so glad you enjoyed it 💚
A pair?! How exciting!
Lovely to see the foxes on your camera Melissa. I wonder where their den is? Often they use underneath old sheds/buildings or discarded gardens :)

It was wasn’t it?! Intense..
What’s the use for retracting claws?
