Although I have no wildlife camera (yet) I carefully added a few dead branches between the fence and a newly planted tree, so that the birds could land on them, close to the bird feeder. The blue tits especially look amazing in the little setup.
Hi Leonard, that’s great to hear. It’s amazing what a difference just a small addition to a garden can make for wildlife. When I’ve created a log pile in the past, it’s amazing to see how much the little birds seemed to enjoy hopping around on them.
We have a tree next to our bird feeder, and I love to see the birds queuing up in line on it, before they hop onto the feeder.
Blue tits are one of my favourite small birds. I hope to write an article about them later in the year.
A lovely read and your patience bore your own fruit. And yes, I know exactly what Labradors and squirrels are like having had two of the former and love to feed the later. I would love to see a fox close up. How lovely to see some camera footage. Look forward to part two.
What a treat to image this elusive creature! We don’t have foxes where I live, but we do regularly catch deer and bear on our trail cam. It’s fun to see who is wandering at night on the trails I frequent during the day!
ahhh I love this!:) In awe at the beauty of her, and your storytelling. This was lovely with a cup of tea and some peace and quiet as N plays DND upstairs! Cant wait for part two:) xox
I love the effort and dedication you've gone to with this! I've been awfully lucky with foxes of late, coming across them snoozing in the sun, following me on my walks home through the streets of Hammersmith and flirting outrageously with one another in my brother's garden in Stourbridge. Gorgeous creatures.
Thank you Alan! I know they are not for everyone, but I too think they are gorgeous creatures, and feel honoured to share space with them. How lovely that they are spending so much time around you at the moment :-)
I really enjoyed reading this Melissa - The fox is such an amazing animal having adapted it's snout to pick up town food more easily. An example of how wildlife can thrive next to humans. I too have a fox, and put cat biscuits out although I never am sure who get's there first, the neigbourhoods cats or the fox. I look forward to part 2!!
How exciting - I have been wondering about buying a camera like this. We definitely get a lot of hedgehogs and I think we possibly get the occasional fox.
Can’t wait for next week’s instalment! I sympathise with your initial frustration- I experienced this trying to capture images of hedgehogs in the summer. But the reward when you finally get amazing footage- so worthwhile. I heard foxes mating in the ginnel behind our house last night. I thought something was being killed then realised what it was!
I love them so much. Was supplementary feeding up to eight last year. Every day began with coffee and review of hedgehog footage. Really missing them now they are in hibernation. Not long to wait now until they emerge again thankfully!
Thank you for writing about your adventures with your wildlife camera, Mellissa. My heart melted, and I could feel your excitement, anticipation and joy. It brings me a great deal of pleasure photographing the birds who visit our garden, the simple pleasure of it. I’ll post one up on Notes fyi. I don’t have a trail camera I can leave out or anything like that, I’m not sure I’d get any work done if I did…
Thanks Bee 💚 You are right though… on wildlife camera checking days I do get very little else done!! 😆 Most of mine is filled with pheasants and blackbirds. The fox is a real treat.
How wonderful! I’m looking forward to Part Two already! I used to have a whole family of foxes that would sunbathe in my garden in London. One year I think there were four cubs gambolling about the place! I had the best view from my flat looking down. It brought me a lot of joy, especially during the Covid lockdowns. I must try to find the pictures / videos to share with you sometime!

If you need extra photos for that essay, feel free to ping me!
Oh thank you! That would be wonderful.
Cliffhanger?! You devil!
😆😆😆

Thank you Casey 💚 I also love reading about creatures that don't share my environment. The idea of living side by side with bears blows my mind!! 😃

Aww thanks Ri! I'm so glad you enjoyed it 💚

How wonderful! I think Clementine would enjoy a wildlife camera 🦊
I can highly recommend it!

Thankyou Clare 🤗 Cat biscuits are a good idea. I might try that!

Looking forward to the next instalment!
Thank you🤗 I can highly recommend getting one. We picked ours up pretty cheap from Amazon. You might be surprised by who's visiting!
Thanks - I might get one for my partner's birthday in a couple of months (though I think he might guess it is really for me, lol :-)

PS. I adore hedgehogs, it would be a dream to capture one on my camera some day.

I hope you’ll share a little about them here sometime, so I can get my hedgehog fix 😆
It’s a pretty terrifying sound isn’t it? Until you know what it is.
