I love the combination of purple and yellow. Violets and primroses are among my favourites. I love the hedging idea and the walk through your land is full of new surprises. Your posts are so relaxing and a real treat to read. I will look at March part two soon. Thank you in sharing your keen observations with us. X
Thanks Helen! I’m so glad you enjoy them. I’ve been concerned they’ve been getting longer and longer though, so I’m planning to introduce a mid month highlights post to spread them out a bit.
And I’m with you on violets and primroses as favourites 💜💛
Absolutely delightful. I love how you embrace and nurture the nature that arrives on your doorstep, joins you on your walks and visits your garden. So much love shown to an array of wildlife, am sure that's why they return.
Thank-you Melissa - I feel I was there with you 🙂 my favourite moments from March so far have been the young blue tit regularly tapping on my bedroom window to get my attention, a pair of young collared doves joining the other birds in our garden (the first I’ve seen since we moved to Wales just over a year ago - there were a number of mating pairs and offspring in our previous garden and I’ve been missing them) and the Spring bulbs that I planted late coming up anyway 🙂 Penn x
Thank you so much! Blue tits are so adorable, and cheeky, I love that you have one tapping on your window. Collared doves are beautiful too, we had a nesting pair last year, I'm hoping they might return. It's hard to leave birds behind when you move house, I'm glad they are showing up for you again.
You are welcome 🙂 I starting putting out bird feed on a table and in bird feeders, and we brought a bird bath with us, so it didn’t take long for the birds to find us - including free-range chickens from a neighbouring farm! Such joy! I miss pheasants whom we don’t seem to have here, but plenty of woodpeckers, red kites, sparrow hawks and a common buzzard I saw the other day 🙂 Penn x
Lots happening as Spring rolls through the end of March, Melissa. So many wonderful descriptions and encounters - especially with that Barn Owl - very special. My favourite moments this month was encounter a Great Grey Owl here in Ottawa on March 1. This was the first time I had ever seen one. A really beautiful bird. Thank you for sharing.
Its been a fabulous month! Enjoyed reading your post. A lovely reminder of things that I have seen and enjoyed too. I’ve got very excited about bee varieties lately! Will look forward to your piece on pheasants. Our male,Peter, has been strutting about squawking and drumming his wings since 5am! I got up and gave him some seeds. He soon came clucking with his bevy of females. They are such magnificent birds. Well done with the hedge planting. Keep us posted as it grows. ❤️
Isn't March just wonderful. I have briefly looked at this post and will give it my fullest attention later but I just wanted to say hello and I have loved this month. The photos are lovely as well as the words.
Such a lovely post! And thank you for the mention! I too love the buzzing of bumblebees <3 We have a great weather forecast here next week, lots of sunshine and real warmth, so I can't wait to see lots more bees and other creatures.
The hedge will be an absolute haven for birds!

This is a wonderful post! My only complaint about this time of year is the pollen.
Thanks Adam 😊 That's very true... my husband cut the grass for the first time yesterday and the sneezing has begun!
Wonderful post, Melissa! Spring (with not too much pollen in the air) is my favourite time of year.
Thanks Monica. It's fast becoming my favourite time too (it used to be Autumn)

Sounds wonderful! I would love to see woodpeckers here someday 💚🌿

March has been fabulous here in the UK hasn't it? Bee spotting is something I'd love to get more into. Maybe this year is the year?
I will definitely keep you posted on the hedgerow.

Hi Helen! Nice to hear from you. I hope you're well and enjoy reading the full post when you get the time 💚🌿
I will indeed. I'm saving it with my early morning tea tomorrow.
