Great post, Melissa, I certainly learned some interesting mouse facts. Obviously, we have them around the farm and we have a number of barn owls too so I guess the mice must be thriving. I have also witnessed super mouse powers courtesy of one (or more) who lives in the house. It was probably brought in by one of our house cats (as opposed to the ferals) as she has absolutely no killer instinct but enjoys catching them. We hear moving stuff around that you would never think a creature so small would have the strength to move. Your video, which is brilliant, confirms how remarkable they are. Thanks for sharing. 👏D
Thanks Dave, I envy you your barn owls! I do see one here, but it is only occasionally. I’m hoping that as I continue to increase the wildlife habitats that maybe they’ll be convinced to stick around.
The mice are surprisingly strong aren’t they? I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. I can’t take credit, my husband is the film maker, but I hope to include a few similar videos in future posts.
We have woodmice visiting our hedgehog feeding stations. They trigger the Blink cameras so often I have to sift through masses of footage to find the hedgehogs! I love the woodmice though! They are amusing little creatures- all quivering whiskers and button eyes. (Why does predictive text keep changing woodmice to woodlice!! Grr!) They sometimes chase and fight with each other, squeaking furiously! Great video by the way!
I can imagine Snow White and wow what a video. How clever you are to make that. Such lovely adventures to look and read upon once again. I have enjoyed this post.
Aww thank you Helen. I hope you are well this week :-) I cannot take the credit for the video, it’s all my husband’s work! But I know he will be very pleased to hear how much people are enjoying it. I’m the writer, he’s the film maker :-)
The video was so awesome! Shared it with my son:) We have four cats inside and many owls (barred owls) outside, so sightings of mice never happen. I loved learning about this little critter!
I really enjoyed that video and you've captured well their speed and jumping ability! I haven't seen many mice on my hikes in Nature. Mostly the odd quick movement and rustling of dry leaves on the ground when I'm sitting still watching a bird up in the trees. I do like to see them and appreciate their role in the larger part of a healthy ecosystem. Thanks for sharing.
Such a lovely post and video. We played host to a family of shrews a few years ago, beautiful little creatures. The Tawny Owl 🦉 often sits in the Birch in the garden so we hopefully have mice too.
Great post! I love the video of the jump, especially in slow-mo! I'm almost certain that I have some mice in my orchard too, and really must get my wildlife camera out again.
Mouse mansion! Love that name. This is so interesting, and mice are much more clever than we often give them credit for.
I agree. I’m still amazed that my favourite little wood mouse has survived in between fox and badger visits!

Thanks Leonard!
Lovely mouse tale:)
Thanks Sarah!
I love mice! I had a pet one once called Daisy. This is such an informative written post - thank you Melissa 🐁
Oh that’s such a cute name for a mouse! Thank you Clare 💚

Thank you! My husband does the videos, I shall be sure to share your positive feedback with him. I’m so glad you enjoyed it 😊
Oh my goodness, I love this! What a delightful little character to have visiting after dark!
I’m so jealous of your experience being surrounded by baby mice!!
Pinkies!! Oh my gosh! Thank you for this beautiful and informative post! I had no idea of their sense of smell too! What perfect tiny creatures! 😌
Thank you Jane, I enjoyed learning about the sweet little creatures along the way :-)
A very interesting read. We have several who come into our garage each winter.

Hi Tracey, I’ll bet you have! 🐁 I’d love to see a shrew, they are adorable.

Thanks Kate. I can’t wait to see what your camera reveals!
